Manor house shows off stonework skills
May 2010
Amos craftsmen are making good progress on one of the most impressive private homes to be built in the Staffordshire Moorlands in recent years.
The imposing seven-bedroom manor house at Wetley Rocks is closely modelled on Birdsgrove House, a Grade II Listed Victorian mansion near Ashbourne.
Structural work on the house is now more than 60% complete and has involved the use of extensive quantities of natural gritstone which has been precisely cut and shaped for features such as the gothic-style mullioned windows.
“This is a prestige project requiring very high levels of craftsmanship. Very few private houses are built today with this amount of finely worked natural stone and we are one of the few construction companies who could undertake such a demanding project,” said an Amos spokesman.
