Amos Group’s £5,000 donation boost school’s expansion fund
July 2006
A project to expand facilities at one of the Moorlands’ smallest schools has been given a tremendous boost thanks to a £5,000 donation by local company, the Amos Group, Parents, friends and staff at The Faber Catholic Primary School, Cotton, have begun raising £30,000 towards the cost of improvements at the 130-year-old school.
The £300,000 project, paid for chiefly from Diocesan funds, will see conversion of the former headmaster’s house to become extra classroom space and a staff room. The 52-pupil school is also benefiting from a new outdoor classroom which will support its multi-sensory teaching methods.
“The extra classrooms will be extremely useful in supporting our pupils’ learning and the outdoor classroom is particularly appropriate as the school is in such a beautiful area,” explained head teacher Francesca Devine. “It will also be the first time the teachers have had their own staff room.”
She continued: “The school needs to raise ten percent of the total cost which is a very substantial amount as we have just 39 families involved. The £5,000 donation from the Amos Group is just fantastic – we’re overwhelmed by their generosity.”
The donation brings the Friends of Faber fund raising total to £6,000 and there are plans for a series of events to bring in more cash over coming months.
Leek-based Amos Group is closely involved with the village of Cotton through its proposals to regenerate the site of nearby Cotton College where it plans to restore a range of historic buildings and convert them to new homes.
“We are delighted to support the project to provide more space for pupils at The Faber School. It’s a delightful school and this will help pupils make full use of the space they have available,” said a spokesman for the Group.
“Our plans for the Cotton College site will eventually bring new families to the community, many of whom will appreciate a successful local school like this one.”
