Amos Group paves the way to old folks’ summerhouse
April 2007
Residents at a sheltered housing complex have been enjoying the spring sunshine after local development company the Amos Group paved the way to a new summerhouse.
The 54 pensioners living at Pickwood Close, Leek raised more than £2,000 to build the summerhouse for communal use at the Beth Johnson Housing scheme.
Now Leek-based Amos Group has put the finishing touch to the project free-of-charge by improving access to the summerhouse and setting the building on firm foundations.
“Everyone got involved in raising funds for the summerhouse,” explained scheme manager Linda Lee. “We also received donations in memory of one of our residents, Mabel Clowes, who used to love sitting out in the sun.”
Linda continued: “We were delighted when Amos Group offered to lay a proper pathway to the site. It means that all residents can now reach the summerhouse safely, even those in wheelchairs.”
The work was finished in time for the summerhouse to be used during sunny weather since the start of April.
An Amos Group spokesman commented: “The residents at Pickwood Close did a fine job in raising funds for the summerhouse. We hope that in providing a smooth path we will help as many as possible to use it."
