Luxury holiday cottages complex reflects growing trend

September 2008

Luxury holiday accommodation is being created with the conversion of a former barn and total renovation of existing farmhouse in the Peak District.

Amos Group successfully won the contract to turn the property at Upper Moor Farm, Parwich into a four-bedroom farmhouse and two separate two-bedroom holiday cottages of 5,000 square foot.

Experienced in the conversion of buildings to meet strict Peak Park design standards, the Amos team has faced the additional challenge of a tight time schedule. Having commenced work on-site in September, Amos Group craftsmen will complete the transformation by March in time for the luxury accommodation to be available for the 2009 holiday season.

Amos Group Director Will Thomson said the project was an excellent example of how dilapidated and unused buildings could be utilised as a property of considerable value.

“An increasing number of owners are taking advantage of the holiday lettings market to realise the value of their properties,” he said. “We have particular expertise in the conversion of historic and unusual buildings to new uses, particularly where planning constraints may present an additional hurdle.

“The holiday accommodation at Upper Moor Farm is a fine addition to the local tourism market and should bring enjoyment to many visitors in the future.”

Clients Edward and Jan Hammond, who were initially living in Canada when the project commenced, said: “We have been extremely lucky – Amos Group have proved to be an excellent choice in terms of providing a one stop’ professional and first class service.

“They have employed a multi-skilled and experienced workforce to achieve the highest standard of results on time, whilst also keeping to the agreed budget! It’s very refreshing to deal with a builder who has such a positive attitude and any minor changes along the way have always been received in a ‘no problems’ approach.”

In projects such as Upper Moor Farm, Amos Group is able to undertake all Health & Safety compliance on behalf of the client. Legislation requires that private individuals who undertake and instruct construction works should be fully aware of and comply with relevant legislation such as the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

This can be quite daunting and failure to do so could be expensive. But our own Health & Safety manager, Sharon Gould is able to relieve clients’ entire obligation when we carry out private contracts.
